Non – cognitive factors that influence reading competency

This study aimed to find out what factors influenced the reading proficiency of first-year college students at Isabela State University, San Mariano in SY 2020-2021. employed descriptive statistics. A questionnaire was utilized collect data from 125 respondents. Analysis used frequency % and ranking. Concerning student-related aspects, more than half them stated that subject interest self-motivation their proficiency. Regarding teacher-related respondents indicated instructors' job experience competency. Parental involvement home academic activities ranked #1 as a factor influencing skills. Among school-related characteristics ability, discipline scored first. Under criteria, proficiency, followed by teacher effectiveness with over Most said most important element ability. Instructors should use variety learning activities, parents help children homework. The government must also focus on good training. Aside providing conducive area for enhancement book borrowing be encouraged.
